Even before learning the alphabet I used to draw some horizontal lines with intersecting verticals to represent trains running on railway tracks. I used to make this left-hand doodling with a piece of chalk or a crayon on the walls and floors of my house. I suppose this was the very first creative expression of my art so far as I can recall.
My parents and school teachers encouraged me to continue pursuing the field of art. I took admission at the Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai, and was awarded Government Diploma with first class first distinction in 1977. Since then I have been fiercely pursuing sketching, doing landscapes and portraits as well as realistic drawing with detailed observations. This has built up my creativity with a solid foundation rooted in perfection in drawing.
Painting in oils on canvas and watercolours on handmade paper are my favorite mediums. Nevertheless, I use acrylics and oil pastels too. Ever since my academic days I loved painting landscape on-location and portraits from real life. In addition, I enjoy creating my own subjective paintings.
